Baptism
“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life,
the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spirtualis ianua)...”
– CCC 1213:4

Congratulations on the gift of your child! We are so happy that you wish to baptize and raise your child in the Catholic faith. We look forward to welcoming your child into our faith community. Because this is an important event in the life of your family, the Baptism team at St. Vincent de Paul is here to serve you. We hope to make your child’s baptism as special and meaningful as possible.

At baptism, infants and children up to six years of age are initiated into the Christian community and begin a life-long journey as a committed disciple of Christ. Since the infant or small child cannot make this commitment on their own, the parent who requests baptism for their child states that they will raise the child in the Catholic faith in which they believe and live. Parents wishing to have their infant or child baptized are required to complete baptism preparation. This gives parents the opportunity to reflect on their own relationship with Christ, the meaning of baptism, and have questions answered concerning the sacrament  and the ceremony.
